E-base 2041

E-base 2041It is not often that a product is tested to the extremes of Antarctica, but Metacrylics® has withstood freezing and temperatures below -70°F, fierce Antarctic winds, and more. Other roof systems fail at temperatures above 0°F. A simple test is to put our product in a refrigerator freezer for a couple of hours, put it on a hard surface and hit it with a hammer. Metacrylics® can take this abuse. That's why hail — or relentlessly hammering away at the Metacrylics® Roof System — has no effect. Tough is an understatement.

The E-Base is a sustainable green building operated in an environmental and resource-efficient manner. The materials, which were very carefully selected, included recycled and renewable resources. It is believed that a cornerstone of sustainable design is to retain as many resources as possible within a community. However, there are no building materials produced or indigenous supplies available in Antarctica.

All of the building materials chosen are sustainable products, and include structurally insulated panels from WhnterPanel; 100 percent post-consumer, recycled rubber interior flooring from Eco Surfaces; and an Energy Star watertight blanket with low VOCs for the roof and siding from Metacrylics®.
